Early Learning Center

A 5-Star Licensed Childcare Center

Early Learning Center (ELC)

This is a licensed, QRIS 5-Star Award certified childcare center that is dedicated to breaking the cycle of abuse, neglect and trauma by providing a safe, nurturing and educational environment for children ages 6 weeks-3 years. We have highly-qualified teachers who collaborate with families to support healthy parent/child attachment and healthy relationships with safe adults. We are guided by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and use Creative Curriculum to plan individualized, developmentally appropriate activities. Parent/child interactive groups are held regularly, focusing on music and early literacy. ELC addresses the individual needs of children as part of their daily care, and strives to support cultural and traditional backgrounds of the families we serve.

Enrollment

The ELC is licensed to accept children ages 6 weeks-3 years.  Our day care center is on the campus of the White Shield Center and is a mixed-use facility.  The center currently serves the children who live on campus.  The ELC consists of one infant room and one toddler room; each is licensed for up to 8 children.

Our Infant Room

> Serves children from 6 weeks to one year.

> Individualizes the daily schedule according to the needs of each child.

> One year olds are placed in either room according to their developmental level, readiness, age and number of children in each room at the time, following a discussion between the parent and ELC teachers.

Toddler Room

> Serves children from 1 year-3 years old (Our facility is best suited for infants and young toddlers)

> Follows a suggested daily routine (supporting the developmental need for consistency while responding to specific child interests and needs)

> Breakfast, Lunch and afternoon snack are provided following NSLP/USDA guidelines

> Monthly menus are posted in ELC kitchen

Staffing

Each classroom keeps a 4-1 ratio. The ELC enjoys a vibrant, committed and growing team of volunteers who work directly with the children each day.

Program Influence

> Our program is influenced by aspects of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy of Education (Nature, Family, Community and Child-Centered Learning) and The Creative Curriculum (individualized planning based on child observations, respect for varying abilities and needs).

> ELC is a QRIS 5-Star Award program

> ASQ developmental screening is completed with each child within 30 days of enrollment
